My image doesn't show fast because of 1.4 megs. I can't compress this image file any smaller than 600kb and it looks awfull. What should I do to make it smaller?

I don't know how bug your gid is or what it's main aim is, but you might want to keep it as a 'background' picture. In that way your ads won't have to compete for attention with the background... I have my background set up at 20% visibility and it works wonders. ran it through imageready, changed it to png8, 48 colors, dithered 100% et voila... a 1000x1000 background at 145 kb.

There should be no need to use backgrounds that long. A 1mb bg will turn off your visitors.
